The European Football Association (UEFA) is considering an amendment to the Champions League semi-final system, by holding it from one match on a neutral stadium, instead of the current back and forth format. The European Football Association (UEFA) is considering a major revamp to the Champions League semi-final system, which could involve cutting the group stage to 16 teams. The move is being driven by continental clubs’ concern that they are being left behind by huge revenues generated by the Premier League and the revised format could mean smaller teams having a reduced presence in the group phase. UEFA is planning to perform the Champions League from one match on a neutral stadium, instead of the current back and forth system. The Times, the British daily national newspaper based in London said that UEFA is seriously considering amending the Champions League semi-finals system, by holding it with a "Final Four" mini-championship system, in addition to the final match in one city within a week. The newspaper added that it was well received by a large number of European clubs, and it is expected to be implemented during the coming period.

In a statement to the official website after the end of Al-Sadd’s 2021-22 season, Turki Al-Ali, CEO of the club, said that the season did not culminate in the way the fans or the management wished for. He went on to say that: “We did not want our season to end in this way, and there is no convincing justification that we can offer to our fans. Just as we admit our mistakes, we are also proud to belong to this institution, and we trust our capabilities and we will return better than before.” Turki reiterated that the reaction from the fans and their demands for correction in the upcoming period are natural and logical, as Al-Sadd fans are used to seeing their team compete for and win championships.

Multiple reports in Italy claim that Abu Dhabi state-owned holding company Mubadala is involved in Milan‘s takeover along with Investcorp. The Bahrain-based fund is in exclusive talks with Elliott over a €1.18 billion deal which could be finalised by the end of the month and be announced at the end of the season. La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttomercatoweb report that Mubadala is also involved in the deal. The Abu Dhabi state-owned holding company has a 20% stake in Investcorp and its CEO Khaldun al-Mubarak, is the President of Manchester City. Mubadala has $243 billion assets under management and, according to Tuttomercatoweb, is pushing to finalise the deal with Investcorp. The exclusivity period in negotiations between Investcorp and Elliott ends at the end of the month and according to multiple sources, the two parties are close to reaching an agreement. If the Bahrain-based fund completes the club’s takeover, the Rossoneri could have a transfer budget of €300m for the summer of 2022.
