Barcelona enters the race to host the 2030 World Cup final
The competition to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final continues, with several stadiums being considered for the highly anticipated match, amidst strong interest from both Spain and Morocco. FC Barcelona has entered the race, maintaining its position that the Spotify Camp Nou stadium is a strong contender, despite the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid and the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca also being among the leading options. Antonio Escudero, Barcelona's vice president of social affairs, expressed his confidence in the Spotify Camp Nou's ability to host the final, noting the significant efforts the club has made to prepare and upgrade the stadium to meet the standards required for major matches. Speaking to Cadena SER radio, Escudero stated that Barcelona is eager to host the final, adding that the likelihood of the match being held at the club's stadium appears high, given the recent renovations. Barcelona's stance comes after club president Joan Laporta called for Camp Nou to be given the opportunity to host the final, asserting that the grand final should be held in Spain, citing the Santiago Bernabéu's hosting of the 1982 World Cup final. Meanwhile, Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Moroccan Football Federation, announced that the 2030 World Cup final will be held in Casablanca, reflecting Morocco's determination to host the final on its soil. The 2030 World Cup is being co-hosted by Spain, Morocco, and Portugal, with Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay also hosting celebratory matches to mark the tournament's centenary. FIFA has yet to announce the official date for deciding on the venue for the final, leaving the competition open among the candidate stadiums until the final decision is made.
