CONCACAF national teams begin their journey to qualify for the 2030 World Cup
Following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the CONCACAF region (North, Central America, and the Caribbean) has embarked on a new phase of preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The United States, Canada, and Mexico, who co-hosted the previous edition of the tournament, are returning to regional competition and are preparing for a new qualifying round alongside the other teams in the region. This journey demands significant readiness to secure their places in the next global championship. The crucial first step is the CONCACAF U-20 Championship, hosted by Mexico with 12 participating teams. The tournament's importance extends beyond determining the four teams that will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup; it also serves to select the team that will represent the host nation in the football tournament at the next Olympic Games, given the significant role this competition plays in discovering and developing future stars. The new edition of the CONCACAF Nations League also kicks off, witnessing the return of top-tier teams to competition. The United States, Canada, Mexico, and Panama enter directly into the quarterfinals, while the remaining teams compete in the group stage, aiming to solidify their presence among the region's elite. Teams such as Jamaica, Suriname, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador seek to utilize the upcoming tournament to rebuild their squads, assess their young players, and get back on track under their new coaching staff. Preparations continue with the Gold Cup, to be held in June of next year, featuring 16 teams. A fierce competition is expected among the region's teams, all eager to win the title and demonstrate their readiness before the start of the World Cup qualifiers. Canada aims to enhance its record with a new continental title, while Panama seeks its first title in the tournament after coming close to achieving the feat on previous occasions, while the national teams of Costa Rica, Honduras and Jamaica seek to regain their strength and present strong levels before entering the race to qualify for the 2030 World Cup.
