Spain rewards De la Fuente with a historic contract

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is preparing to extend head coach Luis de la Fuente's contract until the 2030 World Cup finals, as a reward for leading Spain to victory in the 2026 World Cup, according to the newspaper Sport. The Spanish coach's current contract expires in 2028, but federation officials want him to stay until the next World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Formal negotiations between the two parties are expected to begin after the summer break. The report indicated that RFEF president Rafael Lozan considers maintaining technical stability a key element of the national team's future project, and therefore plans to renew the contracts of the entire coaching staff to ensure optimal preparation before hosting the World Cup. Despite the interest de la Fuente has garnered from various quarters following the historic achievement, the 65-year-old coach remains committed to continuing his project with the Spanish national team and is not expected to create any obstacles to the renewal negotiations. De la Fuente prefers not to comment publicly on his future, emphasizing that this matter will be resolved away from the media. De la Fuente has been in charge of the Spanish national team since December 2022, and during this period he has succeeded in leading "La Roja" to win the European Championship and the 2026 World Cup, making him one of the most successful coaches in the history of the Spanish national team.
