Mexican president accepts Trump's invitation
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum unexpectedly told reporters that she would attend the World Cup final at the invitation of US President Donald Trump. The leader of the co-host nation stated that it was a direct invitation from Trump. She added that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney would also be attending, as Canada is one of the three host countries. Sheinbaum had previously declined to attend the World Cup opening ceremony in her country on June 11, giving her ticket to the Azteca Stadium to an enthusiastic indigenous football fan. Relations between Mexico and the US are currently strained due to trade and security issues.
