For the first time, the 2026 World Cup will exceed 5 million fans

The record-breaking continues at the 2026 World Cup, with the current edition becoming the first in history to surpass 5 million spectators in attendance. FIFA announced that the total number of fans in the tournament's stadiums exceeded this record during the Round of 32 match between France and Sweden, an unprecedented achievement reflecting the immense popularity of the tournament being held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Attendance is expected to continue rising during the remaining matches, as 26 games are still to be played in this largest World Cup in history, featuring 48 teams across 104 matches. The tournament is anticipated to set further attendance records, given the high demand from fans to attend matches in stadiums, further cementing the 2026 World Cup's status as the most attended edition in the competition's history.
