Japan knocks Tunisia out of the World Cup

Tunisia's national team officially bid farewell to the 2026 World Cup after suffering a crushing 4-0 defeat against Japan in their match on Sunday morning at Monterrey Stadium, as part of the second round of Group F matches. The Japanese team dominated the game from the opening minutes, with Daichi Kamada opening the scoring early in the fourth minute, before Ayase Ueda doubled the Samurai Blue's lead in the 31st minute. In the second half, Japan continued their dominance, with Junya Ito adding a third goal in the 69th minute, followed by Ueda's second goal and Japan's fourth in the 83rd minute, confirming Japan's overwhelming victory. French coach Hervé Renard was unable to turn things around for the Tunisian team in his first appearance with them, having taken over temporarily from his compatriot Sabri Lamouchi after the heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in the opening round. With this result, Tunisia became the first Arab team to be eliminated from the 2026 World Cup, having failed to secure a single point in their first two matches. In Group F, Tunisia remains on zero points, while Japan moved up to four points, sharing the top spot with the Netherlands, who lead on goal difference.
