Müller: Germany is not a favorite to win the World Cup

Thomas Müller, a member of Germany's 2014 World Cup-winning squad, believes his country are not favorites this time around because the team is still developing. The expanded North American World Cup kicks off next Thursday, with Germany playing their opening Group E match against Curaçao on Sunday. Müller, who plays for Vancouver Whitecaps, has retired from international football but was part of the German teams that exited in the group stage in both 2018 and 2022. He was also part of the team that reached the semi-finals in 2010, losing to eventual champions Spain, before going on to win the title four years later. He said: "I see more similarities with the 2010 World Cup than with 2014 because this team hasn't fully matured and developed yet, but the real journey has only just begun."
