The "Fan ID" card for the 2026 World Cup has been revealed
FIFA has launched the Fan ID, a new digital initiative designed to enhance the fan experience at the 2026 World Cup, less than three weeks before the tournament kicks off on June 11 in Mexico City. This move coincides with growing anticipation for the largest World Cup in history, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches across 16 stadiums in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Fan ID offers a comprehensive interactive experience, allowing ticket holders to access exclusive digital content and a wide range of tournament services and activities, while also keeping it as an official World Cup souvenir. FIFA explained that the card will be available free of charge to all fans attending matches. It can be collected from fan service centers within the stadiums and then linked to smartphones to access various digital features that will be continuously updated throughout the tournament. The card offers a variety of interactive content, including augmented reality video messages, the ability to design personalized memorabilia using official tournament images and content, as well as information on stadiums, related events, and matchday guides. FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized that the initiative aims to provide fans with an exceptional experience that goes beyond simply attending matches, noting that the card will be a way to preserve memories and engage with the tournament atmosphere in an innovative way. The 2026 World Cup is expected to attract more than six million fans to stadiums, in addition to billions of viewers worldwide, in an edition anticipated to set records for both attendance and digital engagement. FIFA stressed that the Fan ID is not a substitute for a match ticket or visa, nor is it a requirement for stadium entry. Rather, it is designed to enrich the fan experience and provide them with additional benefits throughout the tournament.
