The Asian Football Confederation supports Infantino for a new term

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Committee has taken significant organizational steps regarding the commercial rights for the 2029-2036 term, following a broad public consultation process that attracted considerable interest. AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa stated during the Executive Committee meeting in Vancouver that the level of interest reflects the rapid growth of Asian football's global standing. He emphasized that the current phase requires careful consideration to ensure the selection of the most suitable long-term commercial approach. He noted that the AFC is striving to solidify its strategy for developing both the technical and economic aspects of the game, given the significant transformations occurring in club competitions following the implementation of the new multi-tier system, as well as the launch of the inaugural AFC Women's Champions League. He further explained that previous terms have contributed to strengthening the infrastructure and financial resources of football in the continent, stressing that the next phase necessitates a greater alignment between sporting ambitions and commercial potential to guarantee continued growth. The meeting also saw the Executive Committee reaffirm its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino's candidacy for another term, citing the ongoing cooperation between the two entities over the past years in developing the game globally and within Asia. At the continental leadership level, Asian Football Confederation President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa reaffirmed the importance of continuing the partnership with FIFA, in order to serve the development of football in Asia and enhance its global competitiveness.
