Spain is closing in on Italy's historic achievement

The Spanish national team is on the verge of officially qualifying for the 2026 World Cup finals, scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico in the middle of next year. Spain secured a resounding 4-0 victory over Georgia in the fifth round of European qualifiers, bringing them one step closer to guaranteeing their place. Spain tops Group E with a perfect record of 15 points from five consecutive wins without conceding a goal, making their qualification a mere formality. The Spanish team continued to bolster their impressive record, extending their unbeaten run to 30 matches, a best-ever streak, surpassing their previous record of 29 matches between 2010 and 2013. "La Roja" is now chasing the European record held by Italy, who boast the longest unbeaten run in official matches with 31 games between 2018 and 2021. Spain needs only a draw against Turkey in their next match to equal the Italian record and move within one step of claiming the record for the longest unbeaten run by a European team in official matches.
