Morocco to build world's largest stadium for 2030 World Cup

Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, announced that Morocco plans to complete the construction of the largest football stadium in the world by 2027, as part of its preparations to host the 2030 World Cup jointly with Spain and Portugal. The Hassan II Stadium, which will be built in the city of Benslimane near Casablanca, is expected to accommodate 115,000 spectators. The Moroccan government said the project will cost around $500 million, with a design inspired by traditional gatherings in Morocco, where the structure will be under a large “tent” roof that symbolizes local culture. Lekjaa confirmed that the renovation and expansion of the stadiums in Rabat and Tangier will be completed within the next two months, while improvements to the stadiums in Agadir, Marrakech and Fez will begin after the end of the African Cup of Nations, which Morocco will host in December. In addition to the stadiums, Morocco is working to enhance its infrastructure, by expanding its high-speed train network south to Marrakech, increasing hotel capacity, and expanding airports in major cities in preparation for receiving millions of fans during the tournament. This ambitious project reflects Morocco's vision to host an exceptional world championship that reflects the development of the country's sporting and economic infrastructure.
