Infantino attends Trump's inauguration
FIFA President Gianni Infantino attended the inauguration of US President Donald Trump for a second term in Washington, DC, after his victory over Kamala Harris in the presidential election. During the event, Infantino, 54, praised the role of football in promoting global unity, expressing his appreciation for Trump’s honoring of him during his victory speech. Infantino posted a statement on his Instagram account in which he said: “What an honor and privilege to be honored by President Trump, with whom I have a great friendship, and together we seek to unite the world through football.” These statements came after Infantino met with Trump at the latter’s residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, where they discussed the Club World Cup, which is set to be held in the United States for the first time this year. The tournament, which is the first edition of its kind with the participation of 32 teams, will be held from June 14 to July 13 in 12 different stadiums in 11 American cities. This hosting comes as part of the preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in cooperation between the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Infantino pointed out that these tournaments represent an opportunity to make football a platform for uniting peoples and strengthening relations between countries.
