FIFA: $6.4 billion in summer club deals
FIFA has revealed the total spending of clubs during the mid-2024 transfer window, with clubs setting a record for the number of transfers with a total of 11,000 transfers, while total spending amounted to $6.4 billion, making it the second-highest amount in transfer history. According to the FIFA report, the number of transfers increased by 4.8% compared to last year’s summer window, which witnessed 10,490 transfers. Despite this increase in the number of transfers, total spending decreased by about $1 billion compared to the summer of 2023, when clubs spent $7.4 billion. In women’s football, transfers witnessed a significant increase, with the number of transfers reaching 1,125, with total spending amounting to $6.8 million. In the same context, the “Transfer Market” website, which specializes in the transfer market, indicated that English Premier League clubs spent $1.9 billion in the last Mercato, representing a 14% decrease compared to last year. This decline comes amid clubs' attempts to control their spending and adhere to Financial Fair Play regulations. These figures confirm the continued momentum in the global transfer market, despite the financial challenges facing clubs in various leagues.
