UEFA Threatens Manchester City And Girona!
Reports said that the European Football Association (UEFA) sent a memorandum to English clubs Manchester City and Spanish club Girona notifying them of the need to legalize their statuses before next June 3, to allow both clubs to participate in the next edition of the Champions League. The City Group owns 100% of the shares of the English club, which is on the cusp of winning the Premier League title, and 47% of the shares of the Spanish club, which has reserved a place in the Champions League next season. European Union regulations place restrictions on the participation of two clubs owned by the same entity in one of its competitions to avoid overlapping interests or suspicion of tampering. The AS newspaper reported that UEFA has presented two proposals to resolve the current crisis. The first is for the City Group to give up a percentage of its stake in Girona, reaching a maximum of 30%, and the second is to transfer all of the Spanish club’s shares to a fund supervised by the federation. The European Citigroup can choose the head of this fund. UEFA has previously adopted the second solution with the Italian club Milan and the French club Toulouse, which are owned by one party. City and Girona will have to reach a solution before next June 3, otherwise the European Union will decide to relegate one of the two clubs to the European League competition.
