Neymar receives harsh punishment after being sent off
Brazilian star Neymar da Silva, of Santos FC, has suffered another blow after the Brazilian Court of Arbitration for Sport's second disciplinary committee suspended him for two matches following incidents during his team's match against Bahia in the Brazilian league. The Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported that the punishment stemmed from a violation of the so-called "Vinicius Rule," which penalizes players for covering their mouths while speaking on the field during Brazilian competitions. The match between Santos and Bahia, part of the 32nd round of the Brazilian league, ended in a 1-1 draw at Santos' home stadium. Neymar was sent off before halftime after a verbal altercation with a Bahia player, which escalated following a scuffle involving several players. The incident began when Santos' Rodrigo Nestor pushed Neymar near the goal line. Neymar then got up and threw the ball towards a Bahia player, prompting the referee to show him a yellow card. As tensions escalated and the players exchanged words, the referee consulted VAR, which showed Neymar covering his mouth while speaking to Nestor. The referee then issued a red card, and as a result of the disciplinary committee's decision, the Santos star will miss two matches, leaving the team facing the challenge of compensating for his absence in the upcoming stages of the Brazilian league.
