A German official calls for City to be stripped of their titles
Andreas Rettig, the general manager of the German Football Association (DFB), has called for the harshest possible sanctions against Manchester City over allegations of financial misconduct, including the revocation of the club's license and the stripping of its titles. In an interview with the sports magazine Kicker, Rettig expressed his deep concern about the case, describing the alleged violations as one of the most serious cases of fraud imaginable in football. The German official stressed the need for UEFA to take decisive action if the allegations are proven, emphasizing that the punishment must be commensurate with the severity of the transgressions attributed to the English club. The case dates back to the period between 2009 and 2018 and involves 115 potential violations, including allegations of providing inaccurate information about the club's financial situation and artificially inflating sponsorship revenue. An independent panel has ruled against Manchester City in 114 cases, according to the report, and the club continues to appeal these decisions, amidst ongoing controversy surrounding one of the most significant financial scandals in European football history.
