Totti reveals why he rejected Real Madrid
Francesco Totti, the legendary former Roma player, revealed the reasons behind his refusal to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2004. He admitted that playing for the Spanish giants could have brought him numerous titles, perhaps even the Ballon d'Or, but he preferred to remain with the club he had been associated with throughout his professional career . In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Totti stated that he does not regret his decision, despite acknowledging the tempting opportunity to join Real Madrid, given the team's roster of some of the world's biggest football stars at the time, including David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, and Ronaldo Nazario . The Italian legend added, "I don't regret it, but there was some regret. In 2004, they weren't called the Galácticos for nothing, with Beckham, Zidane, Figo, and Ronaldo. I would have won everything there, maybe even the Ballon d'Or, but that's how things turned out ." Totti emphasized that his relationship with Roma transcended football, saying, "Roma is my home; it was love at first sight." He also expressed his gratitude to the fans who supported him throughout his career . Totti made 786 appearances for Roma in all competitions, scoring 250 goals in Serie A, having spent his entire professional career with the club . The former player also revealed that he considered a comeback at the age of 48, having received offers from Como and Genoa two years prior, but he rejected them out of loyalty to Roma, not because of his age or physical condition.
