Mbappe threatens Messi's historic Champions League record

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé is just one match away from achieving a historic milestone in the Champions League. He aims to reach 100 appearances in the continental competition, which would make him the youngest player in the tournament's history to reach this mark. Real Madrid is preparing to face Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in the second round of the Champions League group stage, with all eyes on the French star and the possibility of him achieving this exceptional feat. Mbappé has played 99 Champions League matches so far, across three different clubs: nine for Monaco, 64 for Paris Saint-Germain, and 26 for Real Madrid. If he plays against Roma, the French striker will make his 100th appearance in the competition at the age of 27 years and 298 days, breaking the record currently held by Barcelona legend Lionel Messi, who reached the same number of appearances at 28 years and 84 days old. A striking historical irony emerges in this potential achievement, as Messi reached his 100th Champions League match during a game against Roma in September 2015, making the Italian team a likely candidate to witness Mbappe breaking the same record more than 11 years later.
