Italian press accuse Serie A giants after THIRD straight Champions League last-16 exit... Juve defeated by Villarreal

The Italian press commented on Juventus' farewell from the round of 16 in the Champions League for the current season 2021-2022, after it collapsed in front of its guest, Villarreal, Spain, with three clean goals, yesterday, Wednesday, in the second leg, to leave the last representatives of Italian football in the competition.
Italian media have slammed Juventus for 'crumbling' following their shock last-16 Champions League exit at the hands of Villarreal. The Serie A giants conceded two penalties which were scored by Gerard Moreno and Arnaut Danjuma either side of Pau Torres' 85th-minute goal in a 3-0 win for the Spanish side in Turin.
Massimiliano Allegri's side therefore crashed out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage for the third year running following a 4-1 aggregate defeat against Unai Emery's outfit.
Italy became without a representative in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after Juventus and Inter Milan were eliminated by Villarreal of Spain and Liverpool of England, respectively.
The headlines of the Italian press came in response to Juventus’ farewell to the Champions League, as follows:
They then accused Juventus of 'crumbling' to their 3-0 reverse on the night, while praising the performance of Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli following his first-half saves as well as substitute forward Moreno.
Corriere dello Sport also criticised Allegri's men of crumbling, and also scolded them for a 'disastrous' second half in which they conceded three goals in the final 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, La Gazzetta dello Sport accused the Italian giants of 'crashing face first' in the defeat which saw teams from the country 'cancelled' from Europe's premier club competition.
They added the Turin outfit only 'lasted' for the first 45 minutes in which forward Dusan Vlahovic hit the bar, while boss Allegri lamented that his side were punished 'at the first mistake'.
Juventus' only realistic hopes of silverware this season - despite their improved form in recent weeks - now lie with the Coppa Italia.
But Allegri insisted their Champions League exit was the 'reality', claiming 10 sides are currently at a higher level than his team in Europe.
