Spain moves to host Nations League final

Rafael Lucan, president of the Spanish Football Federation, announced that his country has officially submitted a bid to UEFA to host the final stage of the UEFA Nations League for the 2026-2027 season. The Spanish Football Federation president's remarks came after Spain's thrilling 3-2 victory over England in the first round of the group stage of the tournament. According to reports, the Spanish Federation intends to propose two stadiums to host the final stage matches: the Santiago Bernabeu in the capital, Madrid, the home of Real Madrid, and the Jose Zorrilla Stadium in Valladolid, which hosts the matches of the Valladolid team. Lucan said: “We are putting forward a list of stadiums, and we have to propose two stadiums, one with a large audience capacity and the other with a smaller capacity, provided that they are relatively close to each other.” He added: “We have submitted the required documents over the past few days so that we are ready, because Spain should not miss the opportunity to host the final stage of the tournament on its home soil and in a large stadium.” He continued: “The two proposed stadiums are the Santiago Bernabéu and the José Zorrilla Stadium in Valladolid. There are two semi-final matches and a final, so the bid must be submitted early, and we will work on that in cooperation with Real Madrid and Valladolid.” The European Union stipulates that the host country for the final stage of the Nations League must be one of the four teams that succeed in reaching the final round of the tournament.
