A Spanish club is looking to sign Benzema and Riyad Mahrez

Getafe have begun their preparations early for the winter transfer window, aiming to bolster their squad with new players after a difficult start to the season that forced them to seek additional options in the free agent market. According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Getafe used the international break to compile a list of free agents, with a view to potentially signing some of them in January. The list includes prominent names such as Algerian Riyad Mahrez and Frenchman Karim Benzema, along with Jadon Sancho, Dani Carvajal, Raphael Guerrero, and Malian Abdoulaye Doucouré. Karim Benzema became a free agent after leaving Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract on August 30, 2026, leaving the French striker with several options regarding his next destination. Meanwhile, Riyad Mahrez became available without a contract after his contract with Al-Ahli expired in July 2026, following three seasons with the Jeddah-based club. Although Benzema and Mahrez are on Getafe's shortlist, the possibility of completing either deal seems to hinge on financial considerations, given the high salaries both players have earned in recent years. The inclusion of the two stars on Getafe's list does not necessarily indicate formal or advanced negotiations at this stage; the club is still exploring available options, and its financial capacity will determine whether it can move from the initial interest phase to negotiation and a final agreement.
