Real Madrid are close to securing Courtois' stay

Real Madrid are close to finalizing a contract extension for their Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, with negotiations between the two parties reaching an advanced stage. Courtois' current contract with Real Madrid expires next June, but the club does not want to wait until the end of the season to decide his future, despite him approaching his 34th birthday. According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Real Madrid began negotiations with Courtois last July, and the talks have progressed significantly recently, bringing the two sides to within a final agreement. The club's management aims to extend Courtois' contract until June 30, 2028, convinced that the Belgian goalkeeper is still capable of maintaining his position as the team's first-choice goalkeeper for the coming years. This move comes after a comprehensive evaluation by Real Madrid officials, which concluded that there is no available goalkeeper in the transfer market who can offer a better option than Courtois, thus strengthening the Belgian goalkeeper's position in the renewal negotiations. Courtois's recent outstanding performances have also played a significant role in changing the club's plans. He has continued to deliver strong performances for the team, most notably his stellar display against Inter Milan, where he made seven saves. Real Madrid believes that retaining Courtois is the best option at present, especially given his vast experience and ability to decide matches. Therefore, the club is moving towards signing a new contract that will keep the Belgian goalkeeper with the team until the summer of 2028.
