Enzo Fernandez: The most expensive signing in Premier League history

Manchester City have announced the signing of Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for a fee of £125 million, making him the most expensive player in Premier League history and equalling the record for the most expensive transfer in the British transfer market, previously held by Alexander Isak's move from Newcastle to Liverpool. The 25-year-old Fernandez has signed a five-year contract with Manchester City, joining a midfield that has been restructured following the departure of Spaniard Rodri to Barcelona. He will join Portuguese Bernardo Silva, Spaniard Nico Gonzalez, and Dutchman Tijani Raynders. The move to the Etihad Stadium comes on the recommendation of Italian manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with Fernandez at Chelsea before taking over from Pep Guardiola at City. Fernandez said: "Every player wants to be part of a club like this because it's a club built to achieve success. I want to learn from my new teammates and become a better player." Fernandes joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2013 for £106 million, winning both the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup with them. New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso left him out of the last two matches amidst strained relations between the player and the fans due to his desire to leave, before he ultimately decided to join Manchester City.
