Real Madrid player faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol

Real Madrid defender Raúl Asensio is facing a mounting legal crisis after recently being convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol, coinciding with a separate trial in the Canary Islands for a more serious offense. According to Spanish reports, the 23-year-old was stopped by police on August 16 in southern Gran Canaria while driving his Porsche. A breathalyzer test showed a level of 0.90 mg/L, well above the legal limit of 0.25 mg/L. Following a swift trial in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, he was fined €14,400 and banned from driving for eight months. Meanwhile, on Thursday, Asensio and three of his former Real Madrid reserve team teammates – Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez, and Andrés García – went on trial in Las Palmas for an incident dating back to June 2023 at a beach club in Mogán. The players face charges of filming consensual sexual acts with a minor and another person without their consent, before sharing the recordings via messaging apps. Reports indicate that Asensio did not film the recording or directly participate in the act, but he faces two provisional charges related to data violation, stemming from accusations that he requested and viewed the recording. The prosecution is seeking a prison sentence of two years, six months, and one day for him, while the other defendants face harsher penalties of up to four years and seven months for additional charges related to distributing child pornography.
