Barkola sets the transfer market ablaze with Liverpool's record-breaking deal

Liverpool Football Club has announced the signing of French winger Bradley Barkola from Paris Saint-Germain in a record-breaking deal worth £123 million, making it the most expensive transfer of the summer window. The English club paid £106 million as a base fee, with potential add-ons and bonuses that could reach £17 million, to secure the services of the 23-year-old Frenchman after monitoring his performances at PSG. Barkola impressed during his time with the French club, contributing to their European successes and also representing France at this summer's World Cup. His arrival made him one of Liverpool's top targets to bolster their attacking options. Barkola is expected to join a formidable attacking trio at Anfield, which already includes Swede Alexander Isak and German Florian Wirtz, both of whom Liverpool signed during the transfer window. Barkola primarily plays on the left wing, meaning he will not be a direct replacement for Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, who ended his long and illustrious career with Liverpool and joined Trabzonspor in Turkey after nine years with the English club. Barkola had moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 from Lyon for 45 million euros, before his value increased significantly in the recent period, making him now Liverpool’s latest and most expensive signing in the summer transfer market.
