Ronaldo bids farewell to the World Cup in tears

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo brought his World Cup career to a poignant close after Portugal's 1-0 defeat to Spain in the Round of 16, marking his sixth and final appearance in the tournament. The Portuguese captain was visibly distraught after the final whistle, unable to hold back his tears as his country's elimination was confirmed. His heartbreaking performance reflected his disappointment at the end of his long journey in football's biggest stage. Before the match, Ronaldo had stated that he would leave the tournament with his head held high, regardless of the result, emphasizing that he had given his all to lead his national team and expressing his belief that he had done everything possible on the pitch. The all-time leading scorer for national teams concluded his World Cup journey after six appearances, beginning in 2006, during which he scored 11 goals. However, he failed to make a significant attacking impact in most of the knockout stage matches, with the exception of his penalty goal in the current tournament. Despite being 41 years old, Ronaldo continues his career with the Saudi club Al-Nasr, after contributing to their winning the Saudi League title, while he has not yet decided whether to continue with the Portuguese national team after the end of his journey in the World Cup.
