Barcelona set target date for two crucial contract renewals of Araujo and Gavi

Spanish press reports revealed that Barcelona is set to close in on the contract renovations of Gavi and Ronald Araujo, in light of the progress of negotiations and the approach of reaching a final agreement, in order for the two to sign new contracts with the club for long periods.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Sport", Barcelona is expected to announce the extension of the contract of Araujo and Gavi, after facing their arch-rivals Real Madrid in the Clasico on the 20th of this month.
The newspaper added that the contract of the new Catalan duo, in which the penalty clause will be raised to one billion euros, is the club’s policy in order to protect young players from the temptations of large clubs with financial influence.
Though, there are still two contract situations that have Barca feeling a little nervous, with key centre-back Araujo and potentially generational talent Gavi out of terms in 2023.Barca are desperate to agree new deals ahead of next season to allow a similar situation to that of Dembélé panning out.
According to Sport, the Blaugrana have decided to go all-out to secure the long-term futures of both players by the end of March. It’s reported Barca want to ensure both players have a release clause of €1billion to put them out of reach for clubs around Europe.
The two players are now a priority for Barca ahead of the summer, when they will look to strengthen the squad with additions from elsewhere. Both are said to have rejected initial proposals, but they do want to stay at the club, and deals are expected to be struck. It is worth noting that the Barcelona Araujo and Gavi contracts expire in the summer of 2023, as Araujo has a penalty clause in his current contract worth 200 million euros, while Gavi has 50 million euros.
