Barcelona choose Flick's successor
Spanish media reports have revealed early moves by Barcelona's management to secure the future of the team's coaching staff, with Cesc Fabregas emerging as the top choice to succeed German coach Hansi Flick in the coming years. According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Fabregas enjoys the full confidence and support of sporting director Deco, who sees him as the most suitable coaching project to lead the team after Flick's era ends. The newspaper added that Alejandro Echevarría, a close associate of club president Joan Laporta, traveled to the Italian city of Como on a special mission aimed at securing a preliminary agreement with Fabregas, guaranteeing his continued involvement in Barcelona's future plans starting in 2028. Flick's contract with the Catalan club runs until the summer of 2028, with an option to extend it for an additional season until 2029, prompting the management to begin planning early for the post-German coach era. The reports indicate that these moves mean ruling out the possibility of Luis Enrique returning to the Barcelona bench, especially given his high salary and his stance against any external interference in the team's technical affairs. Barcelona's interest in Fabregas comes after the remarkable successes achieved by the young Spanish coach at the beginning of his coaching career, which made him one of the most prominent names nominated to lead the club in the future.
