A fantastic American offer to acquire Napoli
Media reports have revealed a massive investment move that could change the future of Italian club Napoli, after an American consortium submitted an offer estimated at around two billion euros to acquire the club from the De Laurentiis family, in a deal that could become one of the largest in the history of Italian football. According to The Athletic, Underdog Global Partners is leading the negotiations on behalf of a group of American investors, as part of a comprehensive project aimed at transforming Napoli into a major sports and investment entity, encompassing football and basketball, along with commercial projects and modern infrastructure. The newspaper added that Napoli's management continues to officially maintain that the club is not for sale, but contacts and discussions between the two parties have been ongoing for several months, driven by a strong desire from the American investors to persuade Aurelio De Laurentiis to relinquish ownership of the club. The American offer represents a huge leap compared to the amount De Laurentiis paid when he bought Napoli in 2004, when he saved the club from bankruptcy for only about 31 million euros, while the team was playing in the Italian third division. Since then, the Italian film producer has successfully revived Napoli's fortunes in Italian football, leading the club to two Serie A titles, most notably the historic Scudetto victory in 2013 after a 33-year drought, in addition to three Coppa Italia titles and one Supercoppa Italiana. Reports indicate that the investors' plan extends beyond simply acquiring the club; it also includes the redevelopment of the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium into a modern, privately managed sports and investment facility. This is considered a key component of the project presented to the De Laurentiis family. The American consortium also aims to build a comprehensive sports complex encompassing both Napoli football and Napoli basketball, especially since the same investment group has already acquired Napoli basketball, in addition to owning Campobasso, a club competing in Italy's third division. The future vision also includes applying to participate in a new European basketball league, expected to launch in the coming years with the support of the NBA.
