Xavi said , "I tried to bring back Messi, Neymar, Pedro, and Dani Alves. Dani Alves did return, but Neymar and Pedro couldn't be signed due to the financial situation." He added, in a striking statement regarding Messi's situation , "As for Messi, President Joan Laporta didn't want him back. We talked for five months, and everything was ready, but in the end, the president said no." The Spanish coach indicated that negotiations were very advanced in 2023 before suddenly collapsing despite initial agreements . Xavi also spoke about a side of Messi's personality on the pitch, saying that their relationship was based on respect and trust. He added with a smile , "Sometimes Messi would get annoyed when I passed the ball to other teammates and say, 'Pass it to me!'"
