Yamal said: "When you realize that an athlete is not just a legend in his sport, but in all sports, then for me, Messi is the best player in history, and if not the greatest athlete of all time, he is certainly in that category." He added: "He is more than just a role model, and I think everyone respects him for what he has achieved throughout his career. He was a part of every child's childhood; we played in the street or at school, and I hope I can follow in his footsteps." These remarks come as Yamal continues to shine during the 2025-2026 season with Barcelona, where he has become one of the most prominent attacking talents in Europe, having scored 23 goals and provided 18 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.
