Motsepe welcomes investigation into corruption within CAF

The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, stated during a meeting in Dakar with Senegalese officials that he has no objection to any investigation into corruption allegations within the federation. He emphasized that CAF will fully cooperate with any oversight body, whether governmental or otherwise, and that there is nothing to hide. These statements come amidst demands from the Senegalese government for an investigation following the CAF Appeals Committee's decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco. This decision followed controversial events during the final match held in Rabat, which Senegal won 1-0, but which was marred by a walkout by Senegalese players protesting refereeing decisions. During his visit, Motsepe stressed the importance of unity among all parties involved, noting that he had met with officials from the Senegalese Football Federation and President Bassirou Diomêne Faye before traveling to Morocco for similar meetings. He emphasized that combating corruption is a priority for CAF, explaining that addressing these issues extends beyond football to broader areas, with the goal of instilling the values of integrity in future generations. Regarding the case currently before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Motsepe declined to elaborate, stating that the matter is now in the hands of a competent judicial body and its proceedings must be respected. He also denied any preferential treatment for Morocco in the appeals process, affirming that all national federations on the continent are treated equally without any favoritism, and that CAF is confident these disputes will be resolved in a way that strengthens the unity of African football.
