Brazil legend Pele back in hospital for further treatment
Soccer legend Pele, a former Santos, New York Cosmos and Brazil player, said he was back in hospital on Sunday for a new round of treatment for a colon polyp.
Pele, 81, underwent surgery to remove a tumor in September 2021 and has been regularly treated at a hospital in Sao Paulo since then.
Pele underwent surgery to remove a colon polyp on September 4, and spent a month in hospital before being discharged to continue chemotherapy from home.
Pele posted a picture of him on his personal account on the social networking site "Instagram", smiling, along with a message that treats his recent admission to the hospital as usual.
"My friends, as I have been doing every month, I will go to the hospital to continue my treatment," the three-time World Cup winner wrote.
The 81-year-old Pele, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, has struggled with a series of health problems in recent years, including hip surgery that has left him with recurrent pain and difficulty walking unaided.
Pele was born on October 23, 1940 in Tres Caracos, Brazil. In his country, Pele is considered a national hero. He played as a striker and as a playmaker. He was famous for playing back balls. He said he regretted not having scored such a ball in the World Cup.
