Conte: What's happening with Napoli is Not Normal

Napoli manager Antonio Conte expressed his frustration with the spate of injuries plaguing his squad, describing it as "illogical," despite his team's dramatic and hard-fought 3-2 victory over Genoa in Serie A. Conte praised his players' fighting spirit, attributing the win more to their determination than their performance, especially after conceding two easy goals and facing the added pressure of a red card. Regarding Scott McTominay, who scored Napoli's second goal, Conte revealed after the match that the player has been suffering from tendonitis since the beginning of the year, causing intermittent pain and forcing him to play at a slower pace than usual. The Italian coach explained that he preferred not to risk McTominay, emphasizing his desire to have him fully fit rather than subjecting him to unnecessary risks. Conte added that the comeback was far from easy, particularly after the defensive lapses that allowed Genoa to exploit the situation, which was further complicated by the sending-off. However, the team continued to press relentlessly until they secured the win. The Napoli coach concluded his remarks by emphasizing that what happened reflects the team's unwavering character, noting that he was eager to see the players' reaction in the absence of captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo, which he found very positive, as everyone gave a strong response on the field.
