Liverpool's new signing suffers serious injury
Liverpool suffered an early blow ahead of the new season after their highly anticipated defender, Jérémy Jacquet, sustained a serious shoulder injury while playing for Rennes in Ligue 1. The 20-year-old French defender landed awkwardly in the second half of his team's 3-1 defeat to Lens, appearing visibly distressed before leaving the pitch in obvious pain. Rennes coach Habib Beye confirmed after the match that Jacquet's injury was a shoulder injury, describing it as "relatively serious." He added, "We will need some time to determine the exact extent of the injury, but it looks worrying." Liverpool had secured Jacquet's signature, beating Chelsea to a £55 million deal plus £5 million in add-ons, on a five-year contract with an option for a further year. Jacquet is considered one of France's most promising defensive talents and a key player for the under-21 national team, which made him a target for Chelsea and other clubs. However, a change in the London club's plans ultimately allowed Liverpool to clinch the deal.
