Messi plans to return to Newell's Old Boys
Argentine football officials have launched a project described as a "national cause" aimed at bringing Lionel Messi back to Newell's Old Boys in 2027, allowing him to finish his legendary career in his hometown of Rosario, where his football journey began. Juan Manuel Medina, vice president of Newell's Old Boys, indicated that current efforts are focused on securing Messi's return in the first half of 2027, emphasizing that the project extends beyond the club to encompass the city of Rosario, the province of Santa Fe, and the Argentine Football Association. Medina explained that the project reflects ambitious goals for the city, the province, and Argentine football as a whole. The plan capitalizes on the anticipated surge of emotion following the 2026 World Cup and includes unprecedented security measures and infrastructure development in the region to ensure the Messi family's stability in Argentina. Newell's Old Boys aim to loan Messi for about six months before he returns to Inter Miami to complete his contract until 2028, giving him the opportunity to fulfill his dream of officially playing for his home club without compromising his commercial and sporting commitments in the United States.
