Marseille reach the quarter-finals of the French Cup

Olympique de Marseille secured their place in the French Cup quarterfinals with a resounding 3-0 victory over Stade Rennais at the Stade Vélodrome in the Round of 16. The home side started strongly, needing just two minutes to open the scoring through Amine Gouiri, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to slot home a pinpoint cross from Timothy Weah. The first half ended with Marseille leading 1-0. At the start of the second half, Marseille continued their attacking pressure, and Mason Greenwood doubled their lead early on, scoring in the 47th minute with a well-placed low shot after a fine pass from Gouiri. Stade Rennais attempted to reduce the deficit and get back into the game through the efforts of Jordanian Musa Al-Taamari and the introduction of Ludovic Blas, but Marseille's solid defense, led by Leonardo Balerdi, and the outstanding performance of goalkeeper Geoffrey De Lange, prevented them from finding the net. Six minutes before the final whistle, Marseille sealed their victory with a third goal. A swift counter-attack, spearheaded by Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, saw his clever pass put Greenwood through on goal against goalkeeper Brice Samba. However, the Englishman opted to pass, gifting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang an easy tap-in. With this win, Marseille secured their place in the quarter-finals, before turning their attention to the highly anticipated "Le Classique" against Paris Saint-Germain next Sunday.
