Liverpool's negative run in the Premier League has ended

Liverpool ended their Premier League winless streak with a thrilling 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield in Matchday 24 of the current season. Opta, the global statistics provider, noted that this was the Reds' first Premier League win after conceding the first goal since April of last season against Tottenham Hotspur (5-1). Since then, they had failed to win in 11 matches (3 draws and 8 losses), ending a run of poor form under manager Arne Sloat. Opta added that the goals in this match brought the total number of goals in Premier League fixtures between Liverpool and Newcastle United to 198. The only other matches with more goals are Liverpool vs. Tottenham Hotspur (209) and Arsenal vs. Liverpool (199). Florian Wirtz also scored and assisted another goal in a Premier League match for Liverpool for the first time, the last time he did so in a league match in January 2025 with Bayer Leverkusen against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.
