A negative streak haunts Alvarez with Atletico

Argentine striker Julián Álvarez, who plays for Atlético Madrid, is experiencing his worst goal drought since joining Los Rojiblancos in the summer of 2014. He has failed to score in five consecutive matches for the team, most recently against Deportivo La Coruña in the Copa del Rey. This is his longest goalless run since arriving at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium . Álvarez previously went four consecutive matches without a goal on five separate occasions, but he always managed to break those streaks with crucial goals. Last season saw several short goal droughts, but the player returned to scoring each time, most recently against Espanyol. Now, however, his current drought is the longest and most impactful for the team . According to the Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the biggest problem is that Álvarez is no longer the decisive striker that Atlético relied on last season. The player has scored 11 goals in 26 appearances so far, but has only managed two goals in his last 12 matches. He has yet to score in 2026 despite having several chances against Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, and Deportivo in the Copa del Rey. In the last match, Álvarez came on as a substitute in the second half and appeared frustrated after missing three clear opportunities . Despite this, the player continues to give his all on the pitch, and the coaching staff is working to help him rediscover his best form. Atlético hopes that Álvarez can break this drought and score in the upcoming match against Alavés.
