CAF going ahead with plans to cancel African Champions League, replace it with the African Super League

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is considering canceling the African Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, starting from the next season 2022-2023. and replacing them with the African Super League and the African Champions Cup. According to the Moroccan “Boulea” website said that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe said, has already began negotiating the rights to sponsor the competition, noting that Mr. Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation, promised the South African to help him reach companies that sponsor the tournament financially and with huge financial contracts, to improve the game on the continent and make it financially viable.The Moroccan “Boulea” website added that CAF president began negotiating the rights to sponsor the Super League, and the goal is to maximize profit and reach financial prizes of more than 20 million dollars. FIFA President Infantino said in previous statements on the sidelines of his meeting with CAF President Patrice Motsebe in the Cameroonian city of Douala to discuss the establishment of the tournament, "It is not a separation, it is an excellent African league integrated into the Africa Foundation." The Moroccan “Boulea” further added: "We support the African Super League project, it is FIFA's duty to contribute to its establishment because it is an exciting idea." The FIFA president stressed that "The African Super League is different from the European proposal because it is a tournament under the cover of the African Union, unlike the European club that the clubs want to organize."
