By the numbers... Barcelona achieves a historic start under Flick
Barcelona have made a strong start to the 2025-2026 La Liga season, surpassing their performance in the first round of the 2024-2025 season. The team has accumulated five more points, reaching 43 out of a possible 51, and has scored 100 goals so far this calendar year. This impressive start comes amidst fierce competition from Bayern Munich, the only team in Europe's top five leagues to have a better domestic record than Barcelona, with two draws in 14 matches compared to two losses and one draw for the Catalan side in 17 games . Under the guidance of coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona have successfully overcome a series of injuries that plagued their squad recently, with several key players sidelined for months, including Juan García and Rafinha, as well as Pedri, Balde, Olmo, Robert Lewandowski, Firmino López, Araujo, Javi, Ter Stegen, and Lamine Yamal. However, the team has maintained an impressive scoring form, netting 49 goals in 17 rounds, compared to 51 goals in 19 matches last season, while conceding 20 goals compared to 22 the previous season . The only matches that have halted Barcelona's progress in La Liga so far have been the draw against Rayo Vallecano in the third round (1-1), and the defeats against Sevilla (4-1) and Real Madrid (2-1). The team faces two away matches against Villarreal and Espanyol at the end of the first half of the season, and hopes to win both to increase its points tally to 49, a figure Barça has only achieved twice in the last 10 seasons . Historically, Barcelona continued their scoring streak for 37 consecutive matches, equaling the second-best streak in the club's history with a total of 101 goals, but they are still far from the record of 64 matches between February 2012 and October 2013. It is worth noting that the last 100 goals were scored during 2015, while Real Madrid has scored only 71 goals since January 1st, 29 fewer than the Catalan team.
