Will Messi return to Barcelona? Deco answers

Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, broke his silence today regarding the possibility of Lionel Messi's return to the Catalan club, confirming that such a move seems highly unlikely at the moment. Messi continues his career with Inter Miami in the United States, having recently renewed his contract with the team until the end of the 2028 season, amidst persistent speculation about a return to Barcelona. In comments reported by Mundo Deportivo, Deco said: "I don't think it's possible because Leo is under contract and the matter hasn't even been raised. Leo is always Leo and he can still contribute; he's a fantastic player, but we won't talk about it. The current situation is purely speculative." Deco also emphasized his high regard for Messi, adding: "For me, Leo is the best player in the club's history, alongside Johan Cruyff and Ronaldinho, and it's only natural that, as someone from that generation, I wouldn't forget Leo." Regarding the comparison between Messi and current Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, Deco explained: "They are at different stages and are different players, but both are superior to the rest in terms of their understanding of things. Leo grew up in an established team and faced different challenges, while Lamine came through a rebuilding phase." Deco concluded by saying: "I was intrigued to watch Leo play with the reserve team, and his quality was truly remarkable."
