Liverpool legend rebukes Mohamed Salah
Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has raised questions about Mohamed Salah's leadership role at the club, arguing that he isn't doing enough "to speak for the team" amidst the club's poor form this season. Carragher noted that "Salah is rarely heard speaking up except when discussing his contract renewal or after winning the Man of the Match award," urging the Egyptian star to take a stronger stance in the face of Liverpool's struggles under Arne Slott. Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk delivered a scathing assessment of the team's performance after their defeat to Nottingham Forest, their sixth in the last seven matches, describing the situation as "chaos." However, Carragher believes that the responsibility for speaking out after disappointing results shouldn't fall solely on van Dijk. He recalled Salah's own comments in November 2014, when he voluntarily spoke to the media amidst the ongoing contract saga, stating at the time that he felt "closer to leaving than staying." The former defender, speaking on Sky Sports' "Football Monday," said: "Van Dijk came out after the game and spoke as a captain should, describing the situation at Liverpool as chaotic. But with the recent run of defeats, it seems Van Dijk is practically the only one taking responsibility for speaking out. Yes, that's his role as captain, but other players should also come out of the dressing room and speak on behalf of the club." He added: "Just a year ago, Mohamed Salah didn't hesitate to speak about his personal situation and the lack of a contract offer, but I only hear him speak up when he wins the Man of the Match award or is close to signing a new deal." He continued: "I want to see Salah, as one of the team's leaders and a Liverpool legend, come out and speak for the group. It's not fair that the captain should bear the responsibility alone."
