Barcelona hosts Seville

Defending champions Barcelona will be looking to consolidate their lead at the top of La Liga after their continental disappointment when they visit Sevilla on Matchday 8. The Catalan giants seized the lead after a 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad, taking full advantage of their traditional rivals Real Madrid's shock 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium. However, Barcelona suffered their first defeat of the season after a late 2-1 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, after Hansi Flick's team had led. After the continental encounter, Flick admitted that his team had not yet reached its best level, citing the need to improve their defensive performance. Barcelona had conceded goals in their last two league matches, against Real Oviedo (3-1) and Sociedad (2-1), before showing a great ability to come from behind, but this did not help them against a team as big as European champions Paris Saint-Germain, who snatched a winner in the last minute of regulation time. Lamine Yamal is out after suffering a thigh injury, and the 18-year-old winger is expected to be sidelined for up to three weeks. After a sluggish start to the season with two consecutive defeats, Sevilla have found some form, winning three of their last five La Liga matches. Their latest victory, a 1-0 win at Rayo Vallecano, moved them up to ninth place with 10 points. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid will be looking to build on their win when they visit Celta Vigo. After a difficult start to the season, Los Rojiblancos returned to their usual form by coming from behind to beat Rayo Vallecano 3-2, before Real Madrid slipped to fifth with 12 points.
