Mourinho: If I stayed at home, I would earn more!

Veteran Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho has revealed the motivation behind accepting the Benfica job again, despite the salary being significantly lower than what he was paid at his former club, Fenerbahce. Mourinho said: "If I had stayed at home until the end of the season, I would have earned more money, but my love for the job and my longing to compete and win titles with Benfica prompted me to return." He added that the decision was based on passion and a desire to return the team to the podium, not money. Mourinho's appointment came after the dismissal of Bruno Lage, following Benfica's shock defeat to Azerbaijani side Qarabag in the first round of the Champions League, bringing Mourinho back to the team more than 25 years after his first short stint with the club. Mourinho has a rich record of achievements, having won the Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan, won the English Premier League three times with Chelsea, and won the Europa League with Manchester United and the Conference League with Roma, making him one of the most prominent coaches of the modern era. Mourinho is preparing to face his former club Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the second round of the Champions League on September 30th, a match that will be under the spotlight due to the symbolic significance of Mourinho's return to his old stadium. Mourinho has emphasized that his previous experience with Benfica was the launching pad for his coaching career, having previously worked as an assistant to both Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaal at Barcelona, and that he is now striving to achieve new successes with the Portuguese giants.
