Luis Suarez's penalty doubled

Major League Soccer (MLS) has suspended Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez for three matches after he was found guilty of spitting on a member of the Seattle Sounders coaching staff during the Leagues Cup final. The punishment did not stop there, as the Leagues Cup Disciplinary Committee imposed an additional six-match suspension on Suarez, pursuant to Rule 4.2.C of the 2025 Leagues Cup bylaws. The 38-year-old will miss three MLS matches against Charlotte FC, Seattle Sounders FC, and D.C. United, as well as the entire 2026 Leagues Cup, which he will be barred from participating in until the suspension is complete. An official Leagues Cup statement read: "Following the conclusion of the match, the referee's report indicated that Inter Miami player Luis Suarez spat on a member of the Seattle Sounders coaching staff." Inter Miami lost the MLS title to the Seattle Sounders, 3-0, in the final at the end of last month, failing to defend the title they won two years ago. Although Suarez apologized for the incident, the severe punishment reflects the organizing committee's strict approach to unsportsmanlike behavior, especially in final matches.
