"Penguin" stirs controversy in the Spanish national team

Spain left-back Marc Cucurella has revealed why he celebrates goals by imitating a penguin. Spanish newspaper AS reported that Cucurella celebrates this way out of respect and honor for his family, and has done so many times. The newspaper quoted the Spanish player as saying, "I watched videos online of penguins choosing their family and bonding with them, so I wanted to honor my family and always remember them, because they support me in all good and bad times, so I celebrate this way for them." Cucurella celebrated in the penguin way after scoring a goal for the Spanish national team, marking his first goal for his country. The Spanish player has previously celebrated this way for more than one goal he has scored in English Premier League matches. Cucurella first celebrated this way when he scored in Chelsea's 4-0 win over Southampton on February 25, and he repeated the gesture when he scored against Leicester City and Manchester United. AS noted that Cucurella has been married to his wife Claudia Rodriguez since 2018, and they have three children: Mateo (five years old), Rio (three years old), and Bella (one year old). The Spanish international revealed that his eldest son, Mateo, has autism, a fact the footballer has shared publicly to highlight the importance of understanding and support.
