Messi loses his first final with Miami

Despite being the favorites for the tournament, Inter Miami, led by Argentine legend Lionel Messi, lost the 2025 Leagues Cup final 3-0 to the Seattle Sounders. The match was held at Lumen Field in front of a crowd of 69,314 spectators early Monday morning . Osaze De Rosario opened the scoring with a header from Alex Roldan's cross in the 26th minute. Roldan then added a second goal from a penalty kick in the 84th minute, before Paul Rothrock completed the Sounders' hat-trick in the 89th minute, giving his team a historic victory . Despite the Sounders' solid defense, Lionel Messi put in a remarkable performance with Inter Miami, the team was unable to keep up with their opponents' attacks. This is Messi's first defeat in a final since moving to MLS in 2023, after winning two official titles with the club and becoming its all-time top scorer with 61 goals in 72 appearances.
