The clubs that spend the most on French talent

France continues to assert its position as one of the most important sources of football talent in Europe and the world, with its players attracting the attention of the most prominent European clubs year after year. With each transfer window approaching, the question arises as to which clubs are investing the most in signing French players. Figures and statistics reveal that Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have been the biggest spenders in this area in recent years. Chelsea, known as "The Blues," topped the list of foreign clubs investing in French players since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, spending a total of €309.4 million since the 2021/2022 season. The London club significantly outperformed established European clubs such as Bayern Munich (€145.5 million), Liverpool (€120 million), Real Madrid (€111 million), and Manchester United (€102 million). During this period, Chelsea signed eight French players, including high-profile signings such as Wesley Fofana from Leicester City for €80.4 million, Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig for €60 million, and Axel Disasi from Monaco for €45 million, along with promising names such as Malo Gusto, Lesley Ugochukwu, Mathis Amougu, and Mamadou Sarr. Among French clubs, Paris Saint-Germain topped the list, surpassing even Chelsea, having spent €365.5 million on French players since the 2021/22 season. This comes after years of criticism directed at the club for its heavy reliance on foreign players, whose percentage of its starting lineup reached high levels. However, the situation has recently changed, with the percentage of foreigners in the squad declining to 65.5%, similar to Lille's 67.9%. Paris Saint-Germain's most notable signings included Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt for €95 million, Ousmane Dembélé from Barcelona for €50 million, Désiré Doré from Rennes for the same amount, Lucas Hernandez from Bayern Munich for €45 million, and Bradley Barcola from Lyon for the same amount. In addition, they signed promising goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille for €40 million during the last summer transfer window. The list of clubs that spent the most on French players (2021-2025) is as follows:
